The incense goes inside the pan at the top, and is covered by the perforated lid, which is separate. If you remove the lid, this can also be used as a candle holder.

The holder (the pentacle part) is 11cm (4 and 1/4 inches) high. The whole assembly, when the top is added, is 18cm (7 inches) high.
