essential oil of the month - rosewood
Latin:
Aniba rosaeaodora History: Also known as “boise de rose”, this oil is a favourite of mine, distilled from an evergreen tree found in the tropical rainforests of Brazil. There it is often called “jacaranda”. Long established in perfume making, rosewood is a recently introduced oil to aromatherapy. It was once popular as a wood for cabinet making in France. The tree is prolific, growing profusely in the wild, though the Brazilian government has enacted legislation to prevent over cutting. For every tree cut, another must be planted. Uses:
Said to stabilise the central nervous system and alleviate depression.
It is considered first rate for boosting the immune system. Antiseptic
for the throat and calming for ticklish coughs. A cephalic, it may relieve
headache associated with nausea (migraine) and is thought by some to be
an aphrodisiac. May also be helpful for people who have been victims of
sexual abuse for its comforting and warming action. Thought to be a good
skin tonic. Rosewood
