candle magic

Candle magic is one of the most simple and effective forms of spell-casting. You need to start with a clear idea of what it is you wish to achieve (and be sure that it will result in harm to none). It's a good idea to formulate very precisely what it is you want, such that you can verbalise it exactly when you come to perform your spell.

Once you are sure of both your objective and your motives you can choose the colour of your candle.

We have a full range of spellworking candles, all through-coloured. Choose from 100mm (for spells that require the candle to be burned all in one go, and 170mm for when snuffing it out will be acceptable.

You may also wish to pick an appropriate day on which to use your candle, based upon planetary influences that might help you realise your intentions.

If you choose to anoint you candle with an appropriate oil, do it from the ends to the middle. You can carve into it any symbols or writing you'd like to, and collect together anything else you wish to use - herbs, flowers, or whatever else you think is apt. When you have your materials ready, make a space for yourself to work. Exclude as many external distractions as you can. You can call the quarters; you may have a preferred personal method, or you could use this simple calling:

North, south, east and west
Send the power you know best
Earth, air, fire and water,
Guard and bless me from your quarter.
Hail and welcome.

Imagine a sphere of blue-white light surrounding and empowering you. Light your prepared candle, and when you feel ready, speak your objective out loud whilst focusing on the flame. When you feel the time is right, you must close the spell properly.

By all the power of three times three
This power bound around shall be
To do no harm, nor return on me
As I do will, so mote it be.

Besides closing the ritual, this means that if, in spite of your good intentions, the spell would have resulted in harm to another, it will not work, and that you are protected from the karmic consequences of having ill-wished someone (even though this may have been unintentional).

You can either let the candle burn itself out or, if time does not allow, snuff it out - don't blow it.
