We all love our mothers, in different ways, and The Empress encompasses everything that a mother is. When the Fool encounters The Empress he has been journeying on his own for a while, and is in need of love, attention and comfort. It is a time where he learns what is to be a carer, to care for himself and the importance of caring for others and nature.

The Empress is often associated with Mother Earth, goddess of our earth and of Nature and growth, and with Venus, goddess of love and beauty. Love and passion is central to The Empress as she is the epitome of total, all-encompassing emotion and everything that involves, from burning desire and passion, to deep emotional love and the need to nurture and take care of others.

When The Empress enters a reading ask yourself whether you have been too emotional of late, or whether your passions are spilling over? Do you need to take care of yourself more carefully, or are there others around you demanding you nurture and look after them? What could be fertile around you? Are you ready to have children or is there an inner need to become a mother? Are you already a mother and need to tap into that compassionate side of yourself again? Or are there new projects around you that need your full attention?

Think about whether you are acting only with emotion and not allowing your more practical or intellectual side to help. The Empress is beauty, love, passion, fertility, nurture and compassion. She is nature, and is born of nature. Listen to her lessons as she can help you find the goddess within and may well alert you to being aware of the overbearing nature of loving too much.
