The Wheel of Fortune is a reminder that whatever you experience in life there is always going to be a cycle of highs and lows. For the optimists around us this can mean that whenever things aren’t going quite right, we can feel reassured that things can only get better. For the pessimists though this can only mean that when things are going well, its all due to come to an end!

The Fool learns this when he encounters the Wheel, as he jumps aboard the never ending rotation of the wheel, he feels secure as it rises up, full of hope, optimism and excitement for the moment at which he will be on top. As he descends, though, he realises that in order for life to be great he must experience the scary times too. He feels as though he may fall off at any moment, everything is precarious, his security has been taken away (sound familiar?).

Of course he doesn’t fall off. In fact, however uncertain he feels, he continues to remain on the Wheel until he reaches the bottom. This is where he feels at his lowest ebb, as though things just can’t ever get better for him. Miraculously though, the Wheel continues on its journey, and he starts to rise again. Things look better and brighter, more hopeful than ever before.

The lesson here for The Fool is that in order to appreciate the wonderful aspects of life, we must also experience the more negative things. If everything was wonderful all of the time we would stop appreciating the amazingness of life, and then create our own doom. He decides that the next time he feels unhappy, uncertain, worried, anxious or depressed, he will remember that the Wheel will never let him fall off, despite the feeling of instability and insecurity, the Wheel will continue its ebb and flow, and will carry him to safety and a new dawn of increased positivity. Fortune and Fate may be questionable elements of life, but The Wheel continues turning, taking you on its journey of highs and lows, all you need to do is learn to appreciate the highs and cope with the lows.
